About us.

Moving Feast is a network of for-purpose social enterprises and individual and group collaborators working as catalysts for a connected, fair and regenerative Victorian food system.

Partners leading network actions currently include CERES, Collingwood Children’s Farm, Common Ground Project, Community Grocer, Cultivating Community, Melbourne Farmers Markets, Open Food Network, and STREAT.

We work with diverse actors across social enterprise, government, community, and industry, and seek to unite with networks working to similar goals for food system change.

In 2023 we are pursuing new models for funding and governance with government, philanthropy and industry to grow our network and impact, sustainably.

Our background

We started in early 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic hit, joining forces to provide culturally-appropriate food relief to tens of thousands of people vulnerable to food insecurity, including those locked in public housing towers.

Although Moving Feast’s first coordinated actions were for food relief, its ambitions were always broader and more holistic, for regenerative sustainability. Three years on, we are seeing our increasing potential as a food system catalyst connecting partners, knowledge, and capabilities. Moving Feast partners and collaborators have undertaken over 30 projects to date.

To date Moving Feast has operated with a hub and spoke model with STREAT (and its internal innovation team STREATwise) performing the backbone functions of coordination, administration, measurement and evaluation, and communications. However in the coming years STREAT will work with partners to evolve the network into a distributed and participatory structure where projects are aligned into major ‘Challenges’ around themes like inclusive employment and circularity. See Our approach for more information.
