A guide to eating out with purpose around Melbourne!

PARCS
In the heart of Melbourne’s CBD lies a delightful restaurant where 70% of the menu at PARCS (Scraps spelt backwards) is made from food waste. We’re talking vegetable peels, discarded outer leaves or pieces of fruit about to turn. Fermentation is a fundamental part of PARCS with every dish containing at least one fermented element. The menu is regularly updated so this is definitely one for those looking to try something new.
The wine list is also something to write home about. As well as some interesting home brewed beverages often popping for offer. Find out more.
GLOU
Glou is a Smith Street staple. Working directly with local winemakers, Glou collects their low intervention selections in 30 litre kegs and decants them into growlers so you can bring them back for a refill time and time again! Learn more about Glou in Fitzroy.
INTO COFFEE
Into Coffee is a zero-waste café in a back street of Collingwood slinging sangas and coffee out of edible cups. They work with Dodgy paper who repurpose their coffee dockets into labels and turn their milk dregs turned into soap with the help of Farm Goat Soaps!
If you stop by you’ll also be able to peruse the Into Carry Studio where the same team repurpose waste items into incredible carry bags. Find out more and follow them on Instagram.
VEGGIE BOXES
Due to the high cosmetic standards of the supermarket giants, around 30% of produce never leaves the farm! These produce box providers deal directly with farmers and supply customers with wonderfully weird looking and cosmetically imperfect (but perfect) fresh produce, check out Good and Fugly, or Farmers Pick.
MOUNT ZERO WAREHOUSE
Every quarter Mount Zero throw open their Warehouse Shop doors (in Sunshine West) on a Saturday for a morning of zero-waste shopping! They are often joined by other producers and stallholders including Market Lane Coffe, Koji & Co, Sunshine Honey and more. Learn more and plan your visit.
PRECYCLE PANTRY
This business seems a little too good to be true. Instead of carrying your bag full of refillable jars to your local bulk foods shop, have the shop come to you! Precycle Pantry is a plastic-free grocery shop on wheels. All you need to do is schedule a time for them to swing by and keep your eyes peeled for their van, Pablo. They stock everything from premium bakers flour to shampoo, dishwashing detergent and pumpkin seeds, you name it. There really is no reason not to go waste free when restocking your pantry! Learn more and book a slot.
