Raspberries rescued from waste through Melbourne Farmers Markets’ new depot service

As a new product hits STREAT’s on the shelf range, we’re celebrating a year of our Open Sauce project, which aims to educate individuals and businesses on waste reduction, and turning waste into precious resources.

Thanks to the team at Melbourne Farmers Markets who were able to connect the STREAT kitchen with farmers who had an oversupply of raspberries at Woori Yallock Farm in the Yarra Valley. Through the recently launched MFM Depot service the producers were able to find a buyer for the raspberries they couldn’t otherwise sell, and the depot facilitated storing the raspberries for a day until they could be collected.

This has meant STREAT could create this beautiful product which will generate profit for their work with marginalised young people, all while saving the produce potentially going into the compost. Plus, we’ve heard this jam goes wonderfully with scones!

The MFM Depot offers the following services:

  • Cold and ambient storage in our purpose built Depot, providing short and long term solutions for your products.
