Success for STREAT and MAKE’s circular economy workshop

The big question we are asking through our Open Sauce project has always been: What if we always thought of waste as a resource?

This month, as part of Melbourne Knowledge Week, the team at STREAT and MAKE Studios ran a workshop which invited members of the public to help dream up ideas of what could be created from STREAT's non-food waste items (e.g. coffee sacks, flour bags, glass jars, paper etc) and to help us test circular products we've been thinking of.

Glass soda bottles and a wooden pallet have been used to create this circular economy product from waste resources

It was a fantastic workshop and many ideas emerged. One of the circular products we tested was this cute propagation station made from glass bottles and wood pallets (and a few nails). This product is super special as it's designed to be a decorative table piece and an everlasting source of plants once cuttings have formed roots.

You can see on display here some of the other things we made, and on the wall behind is the list of 100 ideas we created as part of the project’s milestones.

Do you have any circular products you've created or ideas for new products? Let us know on socials or email our project officer if you have any thoughts or ideas we can add to the table.
